Fresh talent for the Chennai International Fashion Week.

Chennai International Fashion Week one of the biggest fashion extravaganzas, which is all set to rock the country next month, boasts of designers from across the world showcasing their work.


Along with the familiar faces from the industry, the day also showed a lot of the new faces

Organized at the Le Meridian Hotel, the All India Model Auditions he;d on yesterday, November 8, brought together not less than 200 models from across the country, for a final short list. All the selected ones will sashay down the ramp for the designers taking part in the CIFW. next month.

Models that were present for the audition had come from all across the country, and they were scrutinized by some of the big names in the fashion industry. Some of the jury members included the likes of Rahul Dev Shetty (Designer), Mehar Bhasin (Fashion Choreographer and Grooming Expert), Pravin Talan (Photographer) and Atul Kelkar.

Having interviewed and screened all the models that had come for the audition, some 40 of them were selected. The selection process, however, was aimed to maintain the standard that CIFW. promises to be: being one of the most glamorous, creative and talented fashion shows ever. During the process, models were asked to sashay down the ramp and were asked questions related to their profile.

For the audition, models had come from cities like Delhi, Mumbai and Hyderabad

As the audition was open to all, the day, along with some of the familiar faces, also showed a lot of new faces. Some had even come from places as far as Delhi, and a few from cities like Hyderabad and Mumbai. Asked on how the day proved to be, many thought it was a great experience being a part of the audition, and some were hopeful of being selected for the CIFW. Lekha Anantharaman, a model from Mumbai, corroborates: “It’s nice to have come here for the audition, and now, having gone through the entire process, I’ve got a nice feeling and I’m being positive about the whole thing.” She added, “I have seen a lot of familiar faces today, and many are new. It’s, I think, also a nice way to make new friends.”

On this, Mehar Bhasin, the fashion choreographer and Grooming Expert, said, “I am very happy with the number of models that turned out today, and a lot of them proved to be nice. Now, being a part of this audition, I’m already looking forward to seeing the show, the CIFW.” Bhasin, who herself has been an international acclaimed model, she is today one of the super achievers in the world of glam. Designer Rahul Dev Shetty, too, seem to have been happy man at the end of the day. “a lot of them had some great potential to do well in their career. The boys had some fabulous bodies, and some of the girls were really tall,” said the designer. Shetty, who is just back from two other auditions from Colombo, felt that short listing the number of participants was important, for models had were selected for the prestigious CIFW.

In order to make sure that only the best gets the chance to walk the ramp during the CIFW., the jury members performed the intricate task of finding “the right” skills in both male and female through several rounds of brilliant walks and interactions on the runaway. CIFW’s model auditions were organized at Le Meridian, with Lee and Kingfisher Premium being the official sponsors.

Models From India and Abroad Attend The Auditions For CIFW.

The All India model auditions for Chennai International Fashion Week was held at Lee Royal Meridein, Bangalore on November 8. It was to recognize faces who posses the attitude, flair and the oomph to walk the runway for this India’s first truly global fashion event. The platform worked painstakingly at discovering new talent from across the world to present them in an international set-up.
The event was lead by a prominent panel of jury comprising of members from the fashion and film fraternity. The jury includes Rahul Dev Shetty (Fashion Model/ Choreographer),Pravin Talan (Celebrated International Photographer), Atul Kelkar (Consultant) and Mehar Bhasin (Fashion Choreographer/ Grooming Expert). The official sponsors are Lee – ‘Fit Models’ and Kingfisher Premium.
It was open to all the new and aspiring models. A wide national and international hunt had been conducted. Offers poured all over the world and within few days of announcement more than 1000 applications were received globally. The models were shortlisted and the auditions for the mega event was held in the prestigious five star hotel in Bangalore.
The shortlisted candidates included around 200  enthusiasts from all over the world. Gaurav Sharma, the head of Storm Fashions Company says, “ We have had tremendous response from all over the world.  Candidates have come from various places like Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Delhi, Mumbai, Dubai etc.”
The models were dressed in their best. It was a day of glitz and glamour. It was astonishing to see the confidence they exude as they were tested on various aspects. The models sashayed down the pulpit in attractive and creative outfits – well put together. There were numerous rounds of walks on the runway and skills were tested accordingly.
60 ravishing models will be making it to the grand event. 10 International beauty pageant winners from various countries will also be walking the runway. CIFW will also have show stoppers that include celebrities from the sports world, film fraternity, common achievers and international personalities.
Kingfisher beer and Signature Whiskey in association with Lee Jeans did host a special KICKOFF party for all CIFW MODELS and guests at the swanky nightclub. It was indeed a special Sunday for all who attended.
The Chennai International Fashion Week [ CIFW ]  is expected to be a grand mega event with 10 International guest designers, 30 Indian Fashion Designers presenting their collection across 35 fashion shows with 60 models from India and abroad walking the runway. It is said that there’s expected to be a good support from the buyer’s community as well, as invites have already been sent to more than 500 distinguished buyers from all over the world.

This All India Model hunt for Chennai International Fashion Week is spearheaded by an eminent panel of jury comprising of members from the fashion and film fraternity. The jury board includes distinguished personalities like: Anupama Verma - Super Model, Actress & Fashion Producer, Mehar Bhasin – Fashion Choreographer / Grooming Expert, Pravin Talan – Celebrated International Photographer, Atul Kelkar – Consultant, Rahul Dev Shetty – Fashion Model / Choreographer.

The auditions will start @ 9:30 am on Sunday, 8th November ’09 and more than 200 modelling enthusiasts are expected to participate from all over India. Speaking on this occasion, Anupama Verma said 'Not every struggling model knows the roads into the modeling circuit. Auditions help provide a platform for a fair selection. Auditions give a platform where talent gets noticed, appreciated and rewarded. We can't get to everybody but everybody can get to us. Plus it is an opportunity to present modeling world with debut faces."

According to Rahul Dev Shetty, “during model auditions, I am looking for someone who is, fresh, vibrant, young and confident. The model need not be pretty but must have attitude, good height and proportionate attractive body.”

Chennai International Fashion Week will take place @ a luxury destination – Le Meridian Hotel in Chennai. It will be one of the most prominent fashion weeks organized where both Indian and International fashion will converge.

For the first time in India a fashion week will see participation of more than 10 International designers showcasing their collections and 10 international beauty Pageant Winners from various countries walking the runway. CIFW will also feature select International Models scorch through the runway along with their Indian counterparts. In total 40 fashion designers including iconic Indian designers , established international designers and upcoming designers from India and abroad will be coming together at Le Royal Meriden Chennai from 14 - 20th Dec 2009.

CIFW will have show stoppers from all walks of life walking the run way. Cine stars, sports personalities, common achievers, international personalities ….. all will feature on the run way.
In its first edition it has been strategically placed in Chennai for its proximity to Tirupur; one of the largest garment export hub in India. And also because of the Storm Fashion Company’s management team’s belief in Chennai consumer capabilities , media interest and designer’s seeking an untapped Indian metro city …… for creating a new fashion destination. This is going to be a strictly White Collar affair and entry is through invitation only. Only creme de la creme of the society shall make it to the coveted list. The Event will have a very high glamour and glitz quotient. The audience at the shows will comprise of fashion critics, fashion editors, buyers, corporate honchos, page3 community, models and film stars.
The event is being backed by a very strong and accomplished board of professionals. Bibi Russell  is a fashion designer and former international model from Bangladesh. Born in Chittagong, Bangladesh, she studied in London College of Fashion, earning a graduate degree in 1975. In the next five years, she worked as a model for different magazines including Vogue, Cosmopolitan and Harper's Bazaar. She also worked as a fashion model in fashion shows until 1994, working with Yves Saint Laurent, Kenzo, Karl Lagerfeld and Giorgio Armani. Having returned to Bangladesh in 1994, Bibi opened Bibi Productions, her own fashion house, fusing indigenous Bengali cultural elements into her line. With assistance from UNESCO, she organized her first European fashion show in Paris in 1996. As of 2004, her company employed 35,000 weavers in rural Bangladesh. Her enterpreneurship has earned her many awards. The Asiaweek magazine highlighted her as "one of the 20 people to watch in the millennium".

Vikram Phadnis, often referred by the press as Bollywood’s ace designer, incidentally started his career as a choreographer before rising to fame as a fashion designer. Not having gone through any formal school of training in fashion design, he currently adorns the wardrobes of some of the biggest names of the glamour industry.
Some of the projects where Vikram’s phenomenal designs can be seen are Kyun Ho Gaya Na, Vaada, Mujhse Shaadi Karogi, Waqt. Lucky, Shaadi No. 1 ,Salaam-e-Ishq, , Rocky, Aksar, Baabul and Fight Club!
